My June playlist includes a few favorites from bands and performers I like, as well as some completely new discoveries. This month I also decided to actually try something new, and link the image of the covers (on the right) to the iTunes "imix", so this way (if you have iTunes on your machine) you can actually listen to short, 30-sec samples from each song, just to get an idea.
The Weepies is a new entry for me - a band that plays sort of gentle, soft folk - sounds sort of like "Simon and Garfunkel meet Feist"; it might get monotonous after a while, but mixed with other, somewhat "edgier" stuff, it actually works pretty well. Jason Mraz's new LP is as good as expected - his previous, Mr.A-Z still gets plenty of playtime in my car, but this is a nice refresh. Admittedly, this release brings a much "bigger sound" with a few attractive but perhaps over-produced arrangements (Love for a child); so, the music is a little more sappy, and the lyrics a little less snappy, but it's still good stuff.
Justin Nozuka and Matthew Barber (totally new names + faces for me), have some good tracks, although both LPs are somewhat uneven. Good thing now we can pick and choose on a per-song-basis. Finally, I threw some newer EP releases from The Bird and the Bee - the whole mix needed something a bit edgier, and this fits the bill. TB&TB were my pick of the year in my January post, but this is an update of just a few tracks released since then - and they live up to the expectations. Still playing a lot from last post, so this new playlist is kinda short... :)
