Thrilled with InDesign CS4!

So CS4 is now officially available, and I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with the new features in InDesign CS4, despite the fact that the MacWorld review is rather lukewarm. For those of us that actually spend a considerable amount of time with InDesign on a regular (or even daily) basis, what may seem like relatively small, or secondary enhancements, will in practice translate into hours of saved time, and decreased risk of repetitive stress injuries to our wrists. Grunman’s review is quite comprehensive, but it seems to stress odd features, and de-emphasizes others, quite arbitrarily.

New Lightroom-2 Beta-N (?) Overview

1322898-1653886-thumbnail.jpgAdobe’s Julieanne Kost has three new overview demos (or tutorials if you prefer) that highlight the application’s new features (demo one, two and three). It’s a very concise, but good overview; Julieanne Kost is my favorite LR video-tutorial author - she always selects excellent examples, says what keyboard shortcuts she is using (since you cannot see it on the screen), and provides very articulate, meticulously-planned tutorials. This mini-series is no exception; for anyone interested in LR, watching it, is time well spent.

An interesting point to make is that the software she is demoing (LR Beta) differs in several, significant details from the official beta previously released by Adobe (i.e., the one I have - click on the thumbnail to see more detail).

Type Casting: Helvetica, The Movie - review

So, I just watched Helvetica, the movie. In all honesty, the DVD should have come with a free t-shirt that says: “I watched HELVETICA, start to finish, and didn’t fall asleep (but now I grind my teeth at night)”. It should all be set in Arial, that becomes Verdana, as the t-shirt stretches over time.

Kuler is so cool...

kuler_landl_palette.jpgI was catching up on my InDesign and Lightroom blog reading this weekend, and read a relatively recent (April 15, 08) post about Adobe Kuler on Keith Gilbert’s (mostly InDesign) blog. so I decided to try Kuler. Since the ability to create color swatches from images is built into some of Adobe’s CS3 apps (and some are linked to Kuler via floating palettes), it was more out of curiosity than anything else (i.e., actual need). I won’t repeat Keith Gilbert’s post here, but have just a few comments to add.
